Role : UI Design, Design Thinking, Strategy

TASK

Find a problem in any potential or existing market that needs immediate innovation. Propose a solution for it.

PROBLEM

There are over 200 post-graduate educational institutions in the city of Coimbatore, India. Most students that enroll in these colleges come from different parts of the country. They either stay in hostels or as paying guests with local residents.

" Students living away from home in hostels and university housings often rely on restaurants or families of friends to get access to homemade food when they get homesick."

SOLUTION

Homefood is designed to create a mutually beneficial ecosystem between students living away from home and homemakers living in the same location. It gives students easy access to homemade food and a homelike environment while creating employment opportunities for homemakers.

Why Homefood.?

13 million women have exited the labor market in the past six years. Social norms, rising family prosperity, and a lack of good opportunities are some of the reasons for this.

53% of the total drop - the largest chunk - happened among women aged 15-24.

Homefood combines the skills of Janu and the needs of Ram to give birth to a business possibility. It gives students a cheap alternative to other restaurants while also providing a source of income to unemployed homemakers.

**Please watch the final presentation video to get a detailed explanation of the proposed business possibility.

FINAL PRESENTATION

I tried my hand at story telling for presenting my idea at The University of Waterloo. Watch the video to find out the story of Ram and Janu, the personas who helped me translate the idea of Homefood app into a story.

You can find the slide deck I used for the final pitch here.

RETROSPECTIVE

Should this solution be further developed, I would:

  1. Construct a proper research plan to conduct primary research in order to determine the scalability of this product.
  2. Conduct usability tests to validate the prototype.
  3. Create a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to test the practical imlementation of Homefood in the real market.
